Managing Copyright

ReservesDirect does not restrict the materials which may be uploaded by staff, instructors, or proxies. It is therefore necessary for staff to review each reserves list to ensure that uploaded materials comply with your institution's copyright guidelines.

The "Copyright Status" field at the top of the Edit Class screen defaults to "Staff Review Needed." When a staff/admin user clicks the "Approve Copyrights" button located in the bottom left corner of the Edit class screen, the "Copyright Approved" label changes from "Staff review needed" to "Approved by lastname, firstname on date time". The "Copyright Approved" label stays the same when classes are copied or reactivated. When an uploaded or faxed file is added to or changed in the reserve list, the label changes back to "Staff Review Needed." Administrators can also reset the copyright flag from the Admin tab.

Staff can use Content Notes or Staff Notes to make notations about an individual item's copyright.
